The Graduate History Association is the center of graduate life at the University of Alabama. Run by graduate students for graduate students, the GHA sponsors a number of events throughout the year that are designed to enrich the lives and careers of its members. Rotating workshops are designed to help students adjust to graduate life, write competitive fellowship and grant proposals, and prepare for the job market. Graduate students also have access to travel funding through their participation with the GHA. In addition to professional activates, the organization also sponsors a number of social events such as the annual holiday party and the departments intramural sports teams.
Perhaps most significantly, the GHA hosts the annual Graduate History Conference every fall. This conference not only offers graduate students invaluable experience in planning and administration that comes along with organizing such as event, but is an excellent opportunity to network. Over the years the University of Alabama’s Graduate History Conference has become known for its ability to attract prominent keynote speakers as well as graduate presenters from both national and international institutions.
