Welcome to The University of Alabama’s Department of History!

A division of the J. Frank Barefield Jr. College of Arts & Sciences, our department consists of thirty full-time faculty members specializing in a wide range of fields, including

• Southern History
• European History
• Latin American History
• Asian History
• Military and Naval History
• Gender & Women’s History
• History of Race
• Religious History

We offer undergraduate and graduate courses in all of these areas, an undergraduate major and minor, concentrations in legal history and public history, as well as two graduate degrees, the MA and the PhD.
