Congratulations to Dr. Lawrence Cappello, who garnered two major awards in 2021. He has won both the 2021 Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award and the 2021 John L. Blackburn Advisor of the Year Award.
Dr. Cappello joined the faculty in 2018 as a specialist in legal history. His research focuses on the history of privacy and he teaches courses in American civilization, American legal history, constitutional law, and privacy law. He is also the director of the department’s Legal History Concentration, which he helped create.
Each year The University of Alabama National Alumni Association’s Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award recognizes four faculty members for their dedication and excellence in the classroom. A selection committee of faculty, staff, and students chooses winners from a pool of nominees offered by the university community. Dr. Cappello is the latest in a long line of departmental faculty who have won the honor. Past winners include Drs. Charles Summersell, John Ramsey, John Pancake, Russell Bryant, Ron Robel, David McElroy, John Beeler, Lawrence Kohl, and James Mixson.
Named after legendary UA Dean of Students, Dr. John L. Blackburn, the Advisor of the Year Award is among the most prestigious of the “Service and Leadership Awards” granted by the Office of Student Life. It is awarded to student organization advisors who go “above and beyond their responsibility to the organization and students through care and proper advisement.”
