Jeffrey McClurken: Digital Humanities & Southern History

Event PosterPlease join us for an evening with Dr. Jeffrey McClurken on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 5:00 PM in ten Hoor 251.

Dr. McClurken is Professor of History and American Studies and Chief of Staff to the President at the University of Mary Washington, and he will be speaking about the impact of Digital Humanities on Southern History over the past two decades. As a long-time practitioner and teacher in both, McClurken’s talk will explore where the fields intersect, how they have affected each other, and what we have to look forward to in the years to come.

McClurken’s research areas include the history of the Civil War, veterans, families, the Pinkertons, mental institutions, the 19th-Century American South, and the digital humanities. His book, Take Care of the Living: Reconstructing the Confederate Veteran Family in Virginia, was published by the University of Virginia Press in 2009. McClurken is also the co-Principal Investigator on the Mellon Foundation grant, Digital Liberal Arts at a Distance: COPLACDigital, and he co-chairs the inaugural Digital History Working group for the American Historical Association.
