Panels, 11th Annual University of Alabama Graduate History Association Conference on Power and Struggle

October 12, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 4:20 pm

The 11th Annual Power and Struggle Conference hosted by the Graduate History Association will take place on October 11-12, 2019. The conference seeks to encourage methodological, geographic, chronological, and disciplinary diversity that intersect on the issues of power and struggle, a theme that resonates with so many historical problems. On Saturday, October 12, the panels will take place in ten Hoor Hall beginning at 9 am and will last throughout the day. Of the twenty-four conference participants, eleven states are represented, reaching as far west as the University of California, Davis, as far east as College of Graduate School at Charleston, as far north as Southeast Missouri State University, and as far south as Rice University in Texas. The papers are as diverse as the panelists’ universities. Panels will feature papers on women in power, such as Mao Zedong’s fourth wife Jiang Qing, the use of legal history to understand African American experiences, social discrimination faced by individuals with AIDS, and deserters’ lives during the Civil War. Power and struggle will echo throughout each of the paper presentations.
