Two Undergraduates Receive First Ever Dr. Howard Jones Endowed Scholarship

The Department of History has announced the first winners of the Dr. Howard Jones Endowed Scholarship – History majors Jian Gao and Cameron Ridgeway.

Jian Gao is a rising Senior, and is fluent in English, Chinese, and Spanish. He is currently working on an Honors Thesis which examines the lives of Chinese Mexicans in Mexicali, Chihuahua, and Sonora.

Cameron Ridgeway is a rising Sophomore and a National Merit Scholar. She has played a leading role in the department’s History Club, and has worked for the UA Museums program, developing databases for university archives.

The Jones Scholarship was endowed last year by Stephen and Anne Avera in honor of Dr. Howard Jones, Professor Emeritus of History, and is intended to honor exemplary History majors and minors.
