Current Projects

  • My dissertation, entitled “Charlie Brown’s America: Peanuts and the Rise of Conservatism, 1950-1980,” investigates the cultural life and legacy of the most popular newspaper comic strip in American history. I find that Peanuts was filled with discussions about politics, war, civil rights, feminism, environmentalism, and religion that deeply resonated with Charles Schulz’s enormous readership in Middle America as they turned rightward in the 1960s and 1970s.
