Dr. Thomson’s address will be moved to Friday, February 17, at Noon, in the Summersell Room.

Dr. David Thomson, associate professor of history and chair of the department of history at Sacred Heart University, will present a talk based on his book, Bonds of War: How Civil War Financial Agents Sold the World on the Union, on Thursday, February 16, at 5:30 PM in room 253, ten Hoor Hall.

Thomson’s work explores the publicity campaign that the Philadelphia financial house of Jay Cooke & Company unleashed in order to convince both Americans and the world that investing in the Union was not only a safe investment but one that would help ensure the long-term success of open financial markets as well.

Thomson will be on hand for a luncheon with graduate students the following day at Noon, in the Summersell Room.

Both events are free, but registration is required for the luncheon. Graduate students may register by emailing Brian Martin.

This event is sponsored by the Charles G. Summersell Chair of Southern History.
